Many people ask me how I got into this web business, and what I’m doing here. Some assume that I’m a computer tech guy by nature. They think I have computer science degree, a gift for mathematics, or a knack for generating complex html and javascript from scratch. Wrong on all counts.

Others assume I'm a bona fide graphic designer. While I admire such people, and I have a good eye for design, I'm not trained in that field.

Where I come from is the publishing world. My formal training is in journalism (master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, 1991), and I worked for several years as editor of a music trade magazine.

The way I see it, the Web is just another form of publishing, but without all the paper. In becoming Johnny Web Guy, I've utilized and built upon many of the skills I developed as a magazine editor. In the meantime, to carry out my vision, I've picked up various computer skills: an understanding of html, javascript, php, etc., and proficiency with programs and applications like Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop and Joomla.
